The Australian government provides funding for its Home Care Packages program under the Aged Care Act (1997) and the Aged Care (Transitional Provisions) Act 1997.
The Home Care Packages HCP program provides support for aging Australians with complex needs to help them stay living in their own home.
Approved aged care services providers such as us, will work with you to plan, organise and deliver services as part of your HCP.
For consumers who are at the beginning of their aged care journey and only need basic support to maintain independence, the government offers the Commonwealth Home Support Programme CHSP. The CHSP funds services designed to keep you well and independent, keep you safe in your home, keep you connected to your community and support you if you are experiencing homelessness.
Once your care needs become more complex, frequent or you require a coordinated approach to the delivery of your help at home services, Home Care Packages will be the next step. The categories of services included in the HCP program are essentially the same as those under the CHSP.
Eligibility for the HCP program is based on your unique care needs. Your financial situation does not affect eligibility however you will be required to complete a financial assessment to work out if, and how much you may need to contribute. You must also be an older person who needs extra support to remain at home, or a younger person with a disability, dementia, or other care needs not met through other services.
As everyone’s care needs are different, there are four levels of HCP each with different funding amounts. The levels are tiered to help those that need minimal assistance through to those who require high-intensity supports.
Once you are assigned a HCP, you liaise with a service provider of your choice to identify your care goals and decide which services to spend your funding on. In comparison to our competitors, we charge a much lower fee percentage on the administration of your package, resulting in more care hours for you.
